Mestská časť Bratislava-Vajnory

Associations and collectives

A wide range of cultural activity has flourished in Vajnory under the guidance of priests and teachers, as well as impulses from the nearby city. In the inter-war period there were amateur dramatic societies, activities of the Students’ Union, the Catholic Youth Association, scouts and other interest groups. Today’s social life continues on this basis.

Youth activity is concentrated primarily within schooling. There are two basic schools here – a state school and a church school – which mutually co-operate. The district’s rich musical background is represented by the John Paul II choir, under the leadership of PhDr. Ondrej Demo, CSc.[app. PhD], for many years the editor of traditional folk music of Slovak Radio, who in his work has devoted himself to the collection, publishing, promotion and preservation of folk songs not only from Vajnory. The youth instrumental – vocal group Shine (formerly E.L.F.) is led by Ing.[M.Sc.] Peter Pokrivčák. The promising soloist Katarína Sroková, a graduate from the Bratislava Conservatoire and a student of the Musical Arts University received her choral training in both choir groups.
Vajnory is also well represented in terms of pop, rock, folk and country, performed by the groups Tuky Band, Druhý dych and Vajnorské trio.

Sporting activity is well developed, particularly for youth. Football, handball and hockey teams are particularly active in the district.
